Titan Athletics Mission Statement

The mission of the Orange Cove High School Titan Athletic Department is to provide student-athletes with an opportunity to compete successfully in a high school athletic program that is an integral part of their educational experience. The interscholastic experience will provide an environment of integrity that will encourage coaches and student-athletes to do the right thing, demonstrate respect for all, exhibit sportsmanship, and follow the CIF motto of "Pursuing Victory with Honor."

Titan Athletics Philosophy

At Orange Cove High School, we believe that the program of interscholastic athletics is an integral component of the total educational structure. While we will strive to make our teams as competitive as possible, our primary objective is to help our student-athletes acquire important skills that will help them to be successful in their adult lives. Our efforts are focused on teaching our athletes how to win and not just on winning.

The Titan Athletic Department places a high value on maximizing our students' opportunities to participate at the interscholastic level. Within our educational setting, every effort will be made to provide athletic experiences for as many students as possible. We will strive to offer as many athletic teams as can be adequately coached, managed, and supported. Our competitive teams will be selected on the basis of need, interest, and ability, as our coaches will place student-athletes on teams appropriate to their physical and emotional abilities. At the varsity level, our coaches will select players and decide playing time based on their judgment of combinations that will make the team as competitive as possible. At the junior varsity levels, there will be more of a focus on player development, although playing time may still not be equal for all participants.

Our coaches will strive to be positive role models who display in-depth knowledge of their sport, have an ability to teach all athletes, exhibit strong leadership and ethical behavior, and undertake an interest in the development of good character and citizenship of their athletes. The success of winning championships should transpire as a product of principled coaching and healthy competition.

We hope that during their high school athletic experience, our student-athletes will have fun, develop a positive self-esteem, and build a strong sense of pride in their school. The desired outcome for participants in our athletic program is that they make the Orange Cove community proud by not just their athletic prowess or success, but by demonstrating exemplary attitudes and behavior in the arena of play.
